In a school ratio of boys to girls is 4 : 5. When 100 girls leave the school ratio becomes 6 : 7. How many boys are there in the school?

Solution:

Let initially number of boys and girls be 4x and 5x.
Now,

{4x}/{5x-100}=6/7

⇒15x-300=14x

∴ x=300

Hence, number of boys = 4x = 4 × 300 = 1200
