Let d be a two-digit number. If half of d exceeds one-third of d by the sum of the digits in d, then the sum of the digits in d is:

Solution:

Let the unit digit number = y
Tens digit number = x
New number = 10x + y
According to the statement,

{10x+y}/2-{10x+y}/3=x+y

30x+3y-20x-2y=6x+6y

4x=5y

x/y=5/4

So, x = 5 and 4
So, the sum of digits in d = 5 + 4 = 9.
