If the sum of two numbers is 55 and the H.C.F. and L.C.M. of these numbers are 5 and 120 respectively. Find the sum of their reciprocals.

Solution:

Let the number be x and y.
Then, x + y = 55;
xy = HCF × LCM = 5 × 120
∴ Sum of their reciprocals

=1/x+1/y={x+y}/{xy}

=55/{5×120}=11/120
