Find the larger of the two numbers in the ratio 5 : 7 whose LCM is 280.

Solution:

Let the two numbers be 5x and 7x
The product of two numbers = LCM × HCF

5x × 7x = 280 × x

(x) HCF = 8
Larger number = 8 × 7 = 56.
