Three different numbers are chosen such that when each of the numbers is added to the average of the remaining two, the number 65, 69 and 76 are obtained. The average of the three original numbers is:

Solution:

Let the three numbers = x, y and z
According to the statement,

{x+y}/2+z=65

x+{y+z}/2=69

y+{x+x}/2=76

So,

x+y+2z=130

2x+y+z=138

x+2y+z=152

Adding

4x+4y+4z=420

x+y+z=420/4=105

Average of three original numbers

={x+y+z}/3=105/3=35
