rectangular vegetable garden. Since he has 30 m barbed wire, he fences three sides of the garden letting his house compound wall as the fourth side fencing. What is the dimension of the garden?

Solution:

Let one side of the garden be x m then another side =

{30-x}/2

m.
Now,

x × (30-x)/2

= 100
⇒ 30x –

x^2

= 200
⇒

x^2

– 30x + 200 = 0
⇒ (x – 20) (x – 10) = 0
Hence, x = 20 or 10; Taking x = 20 only because if we take x = 10 then plot will be square shape.
Since, another side =

{30-20}/2

= 5 m
Hence, dimension of the garden = 20 m × 5 m.
