Solution:

Given,

\;{x}/{y}=\;{5}/{2}

.....(i)

∴ \;{8 x+9 y}/{8 x+2 y}=\;{y({8 x}/{y}+9)}/{y(\;{8 x}/{y}+2)}=\;{8({x}/{y})+9}/{8(\;{x}/{y})+2}

=\;{8 × {5}/{2}+9}/{8 × \;{5}/{2}+2}

[from Eq. (i)]

=\;{20+9}/{20+2}=\;{29}/{22}

∴ (8 x+9 y):(8 x+2 y)=29: 22
