The first enzyme isolated in pure crystalline form was urease. It was prepared from the Jack bean in 1926 by American bio-chemist J.B. Sumner. Urease is an Enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of Urea, forming ammonia and carbon dioxide. It is mainly found in jack beans, soyabeans, and other plant seeds.
