Let the number be x.
$\Rightarrow \mathit{x}+0.25\mathit{x}=\mathit{x}+60$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{x}=60\times 4=240$
New number $=240+600=840$
Percentage increase $=\left(840\mathit{–}240\right)/\left(240\right)\times 100$
$\Rightarrow \left(600/240\right)\times 100$
$\Rightarrow 250$
∴ The number should increase by 250%.
