Given:

M_1 = 12

D_1 = 10

H_1 = 8

M_2 = 16

H_2 = 5

W_2 = 3 × W_1

Formula Used:

(M_1 × D_1 × H_1){/}W_1 = (M_2 × D_2 × H_2){/}W_2

→ Initial day

H_1

→ Initial hour

M_2

→ Final men

D_2

→ Final day

H_2

→ Final hour
Calculation:

(M_1 × D_1 × H_1){/}W_1 = (M_2 × D_2 × H_2){/}W_2

⇒ (12 × 10 × 8){/}W_1 = (16 × D_2 × 5){/}(3 × W_1)

⇒ (12 × 10 × 8 × 3 × W_1){/}(16 × 5 × W_1)= D_2

⇒ D_2 = 36

∴ The time taken by 16 men to do 3 times the work while working 5 hours per day is 7 days.
