Formula used:
Speed = Distance/Time
Speed of stream $=\left(\mathit{d}\mathit{–}\mathit{u}\right)/2$
Where,
Downstream speed = d
Upstream speed = u
Given:
Let the speed of stream be S
Downstream speed
$\Rightarrow \mathit{d}=12/2$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{d}=6$ kmph
Upstream speed
$\Rightarrow \mathit{u}=12/3$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{u}=4$ kmph
Speed of stream
$\Rightarrow \mathit{S}=\left(6\mathit{–}4\right)/2$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{S}=2/2$
⇒ S = 1 kmph
∴ The speed of stream is 1 kmph
