⇒ x = -2 or, 6
II. ${\mathit{y}}^2$ - 5y - 14 = 0
⇒ ${\mathit{y}}^2$ - 7y + 2y - 14 = 0
⇒ y(y-7) + 2(y-7) = 0
⇒ (y-7)(y + 2) = 0
⇒ y = 7 or, -2
