The area of a rectangle is four times the area of a square. If the length of the rectangle is 60cm and breadth of the rectangle is equal to the side of the square, find the side of the square.

Solution:

(4) Let the side of square be

x

cm.
= Width of rectangle
∴ Area of rectangle = 4 × area of square
⇒

60x = 4 × x^2

⇒

x =60/4= 15 cm.
