The surface area of a sphere is 616 cm

. Find the perimeter of the square if the diameter of the sphere is two times the side of the square.

Solution:

(2) Surface area of sphere =

4πr^ 2

⇒

4 × 22/ 7 × r^ 2 = 616

⇒

r^ 2 = {616 ×7} /{4× 22 } = 49

⇒

r = √49 = 7 cm.

= Side of square
∴ Perimeter of square = 4 × 7 = 28 cm.
