(4) India consists of 29 states and 7 union territories. Telangana,the latest and 29th state, was created on 2 June 2014 as ten former districts of north-western Andhra Pradesh.
All states, as well as the union territories of Puducherry and the National Capital Territory of Delhi, have elected legislatures and governments,both patterned on the Westminster model. Now,there are 28 states and 9 Union Territories in India after removing article 370 at 5 August, 2019.
