The perimeter of a parallelogram is

36 {\cm}

and the ratio between its two adjacent sides

2: 1

. If the altitude corresponding to the smaller side is 10 cm, what is its area?

Solution:

Let the lengths of the adjacent side be

2 {\x}

and

{\x}

respectively
So,

2(2 x+x)=36 {\cm}

⇒ 6 x=36 {\cm}

⇒ x=6 {\cm}

Thus, the adjacent sides of the parallelogram are

12 {\cm}

and

6 {\cm}

So, area

=6 × 10=60 {\cm}^2

∴

The area of the parallelogram is

60 {\cm}^2
