The arithmetic mean of two numbers is 15. The larger between the two is twice the other. Which of the following is the smaller number?

According to the question

{\x + \y}/2 = 15

⇒

\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; \x + \y = 30

Also, x = 2y
Putting the value of x in Eq. (i), we get 2y + y = 30
⇒

\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; 3y = 30

⇒

\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; y = 10

Therefore, Smaller number = 10
