Solution:

From the question

x^{2}-y^{2}=7

......(1)
and

x-y=1

......(2)

⇒ x^{2}-y^{2}=(x+y)(x-y)=7

⇒ x+y=7

.....(3)
From Eq. (2) and 3 we get

x=4, y=3

∴

Diagonal of a rectangle

=√{x^{2}+y^{2}}=√{4^{2}+3^{2}}=√{25}=√{5} {cm}
