of his savings while B is left with Rs 145 after they purchased the gift, then the value of the gift (in rupees) is

Solution:

Let the savings of A and B be 4x and 5x respectively
A’s contribution in gift

=2/3×4x={8x}/3

∴B’s contribution in gift

=4/3×{8x}/3=32/9x

Now,

5x-32/9x=145

⇒{45x-32x}/{9}=145⇒x={145×9}/{13}

Total cost of the gift

={8x}/{3}+{32x}/{9}={24x+32x}/{9}

={56x}/{9}=;{56}/{9}×{145×9}/{13}={56×145}/{13}=₹624.62
