If a polynomial leaves remainder

-7

and 5 respectively when it is divided by 5 and

x+3

then the remainder when the same polynomial is divided by

x^{2}-2x+15

Solution:

x^2-2x+15=(x-5)(x+3)

Remainder

=ax+b

For

x=5:5a+b=-7

For

x=-3:-3a+b=5

Subtracting we get,

8a=-12⇒a=-3/2

Substituting in the above equation we get

b=1/2

∴ Required remainder

=3/2x+1/2=1/2(1-3x)
