Mass production begins with specialization of labour, dividing work into its simplest components so that each worker can concentrate on performing each task. By separating jobs into small tasks, managers create conditions for high productivity through mechanization, in which machines perform much of the work previously done by the people. Standardization, the third element of mass production, involves producing uniform, interchangeable goods, and parts. Standardized parts simplify replacement of defective or worn-out components
