If a and b are positive integers such that the product ab is 30, then what is the value of a + b ?

a > b

1 < a/b < 2

if the statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Solution:

Given: ab = 30, ‘a’ and ‘b’ are positive integers
I. Given: a>b.
We can have
(a, b) as (30,1), (10, 3), (6, 5)
∴ Ι alone is not sufficient.
Given :

1 < a/b < 2

⇒(a,b) is (6, 5) as for other combinations

a/b > 2

a+b=11

∴ ΙΙ alone is sufficient.
