Rani bought more apples than oranges. She sells apples at Rs. 23 a piece and makes 15% profit. She sells orange at Rs. 10 a piece and makes 25% profit. If she gets Rs. 653 after selling all the apples and oranges, find her profit percentage.

Solution:

(b) Let No. of Apples and Oranges Rani bought are A andO respectively.
Now, 23A + 10 O = 653 ....(1)
Since 653 has last digit 3 which can come by 23 only
after multiplying it 1, 11, 21, 31 and so on by keeping in
mind Apples > Oranges
23 A + 10 O = 653
Soln of (A, O)
(1, 63)
(11, 40)
(21, 17)
So only 21, 17 can be possible .
∴ No. of Apples = 21 ....(2)
No. of Oranges = 17 ....(3)
Now, S.P of 1 Apple = 23 Rs.
C.P of 1 Apple

=\ {23}/{1.15}=20 {Rs}

S.P of 1 Orange

=10 \ {Rs}

C.P of 1 Orange

=\ {10}/{1.25}=8 {Rs}

Total

\ {C.P}=20 × 21+17+8=556 \ {Rs}

Hence profit

\%= {653-556}/{556} \× 100

= 17.4%
