The figure below has been obtained by folding a rectangle. The total area of the figure (as visible) is 144 square meters. Had the rectangle not been folded, the current overlapping part would have been a square. What would have been the total area ofthe original unfolded rectangle ?

Folded part was a square. It means the side of the square is 6. The square has two right angled triangles.
One of which is 'ABC which is shown in the figureand other is missing.
Now, area of ΔABC =

× 6 × 6 = 18m

If we add the area of the missing triangle to area of existing figure, we get the area of whole rectangle as
144 + 18 = 162 m
