Conduction is a mode of transfer of heat from a hot region to a cold region without any bodily movement of the molecules of the intervening medium. Here heat is handed over from molecule to molecule in the medium. When one end of a solid is heated, the molecules at that end start vibrating with greater amplitude. The disturbance is transferred to the neighboring molecules by collision. Thus the kinetic energy of the molecules increases and thereby the temperature of the solid also increases.
