The call for Garibi Hatao was incorporated in Fifth Five-Year Plan of India. The main emphasis of the fifth five-year plan was on poverty alleviation, employment generation, Self reliance in agriculture production and justice. The period of this five year plan was between 1974 to 1978 but in 1978 the plan was rejected by then government and replaced with new plan.
