It is characterized by its special aroma .
The rice is black in colour and takes the longest cooking time due to the presence of a fibrous bran layer and higher crude fibre content.
It is normally served as Chak-Hao kheer in the community feast.
It has also been used as traditional medicine .
It has been granted a GI tag .
