Addition of ethylene di-bromide to petrol helps elimination of lead oxide. Ethylene bromide has anti knocking properties and hence is added to leaded petrol for better anti knocking engine performance. Lead oxide deposit is harmful to engine life. Thus, a small amount of ethylene di-bromide is added to petrol for simultaneously removal of lead oxide.
