The gas that is released mostly from the landfills in the urban areas is Methane. Methane and carbon dioxide make up 90% to 98% of the landfill gas. The remaining 2% to 10% includes nitrogen, oxygen, ammonia, sulphides, hydrogen and various other gases. These gases are produced when the bacteria break down the organic waste.
