In a PCl5 molecule, three hybrid orbitals are directed towards the corners of an equilateral triangle to create a trigonal bipyramidal structure. These are planar and the bond angle is 120°. Two hybridorbitals are perpendicular to the plane of equatorial hybrid orbital and make an angle of 90° with equatorial hybrid orbitals. In the PCl5 molecule, the central atom is P.
