Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) is a disk–like tubular membrane vesicle within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. The functions of the SER vary with cell types. It synthesises steroid hormones and lipids. It transports synthesised proteins in vesicles to the Golgi apparatus.
