The Constitutional provisions and laws for the protection of the rights of the Scheduled Castes in India are Article 17 of the Constitution of India, The Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955, The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Article 17 of the Indian Constitution is a legislation that abolishes the practice of untouchability in any form.
