In economics, utility is the amount of satisfaction that a consumer gains from a particular good or service. Total utility is the complete amount of satisfaction gained while the marginal utility is the satisfaction gained from an extra unit consumed by the customer. When marginal utility remains positive, total utility increases; when marginal utility becomes zero, total utility becomes maximum; and when marginal utility becomes negative, the total utility also decreases.
