Alexander Cunningham identified the location of the ancient city of Taxil as mentioned in the Ancient Indian Text. Alexander Cunningham was keen admirer of heritage, sculptures, antiquities and numismatics. He laid the foundation of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 1861. He also became its first Director-General.
