Ling nut is not cultivated in Karewas, the lacustrine deposits of sand, clay, loam, silt and boulders.Karewas are lacustrine deposits [deposits in lake] in the Valley of Kashmir and in Bhadarwah Valley of the Jammu Division. These are the flat topped mounds that border the Kashmir Valley on all sides. The karewas are home to unique biodiversity. The famous almond orchids, saffron and walnut are best grown in the soils of karewas.
