The Constitution of India contains no provision for the Constitution of municipalities in every state for an Urban Panchayat.
Articles 243 P to 243 ZG deals with Municipalities, which was introduced by 74th Amendment Act, 1992. This Amendment is also known asNagarpalika Act that came into force on 1st June, 1993. Metropolitan area is an area where populations is above 10 lakh (Article 243 P).
