E-100 pilot project was launched in Jan-2021 in Pune on the occasion of World Environment Day by the PM of India.
The project aims to set up a network for the production and distribution of ethanol across the nation.
Ethanol is one of the principle biofuels which is naturally produced by the fermentation of sugars by yeasts or by protochemical process such as ethylene hydration.
The Government of India has advanced the target for 20 % ethanol blending in petrol to 2025 from 2030.
