Clotting of blood during an injury is the main function of platelets or thrombocytes.Platelets are exclusive mammalian blood cells which rush to the site of injury of the blood vessel and produce thromboplastin protein which converts prothrombin into thrombin, resulting in clotting of blood at the site of injury.
