Aluminium ore is called bauxite; bauxite is purified to produce aluminium oxide, a white powder from which aluminium can be extracted. Hematite (Fe2O3) and Magnetite (Fe2O3) are the most commonly used iron ores from which Iron is extracted. Malachite is a copper ore, consisting mainly of basic copper(II) carbonate [CuCO3.‌Cu(OH)2] from which copper is extracted. Zinc is extracted from its carbonate ore (calamine).
