Kishori Amonkar was a performer of the classical genre khyal and the light classical genres thumri and bhajan. She is considered one of the pre-eminent representatives of Hindustani classical music. She received several of India's national awards and civilian honours, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Sangeet Natak Academy award and Sangeet Natak Academy Fellowship.
