Statements B and C are the reason to believe that Gypsies are of the Indian origin. Gypsies originated in the Punjab region of northern India as nomadic people and entered Europe between the eighth and tenth centuries C.E. They were called ‘Gypsies’ because the Europeans mistakenly believed that they came from Egypt. They did not follow the Indian religious practices. Romani is any of the several languages of the Roma people belonging to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family. In English, these people are often called Gypsies.
