A major field exercise by the Army, code-named ‘Sarvada Vijay’ (Always Victorious), was held in the deserts of Rajasthan. The overallaim of the exercise was to practise conventional cross-border thrustsinto the enemy territory. The Indian Air Force also joined in as part ofthe joint operation. After ‘Operation Parakram’ in 2002, which exposedoperational gaps and the slow troop mobilization along the border, thegovernment re-organised Army formations along the western frontto ensure the capability to deliver a more effective lethal punch,if required. The re-organisation involved the creation of the Jaipur-headquartered South-Western Command in 2005.
