(a) As of 31 March 2016, the total length of State Highways (SH) was 176,166 km. As of 31 March 2016 Maharashtra has the largest share in the total length of the SH roads(22.14%), followed by Karnataka(11.11%), Gujarat (9.76%),Rajasthan (8.62%) and Tamil Nadu(6.67%).The top 10 States/UTs in terms of total length of rural roads in India as on March 2015 were: Maharashtra, Assam, Odisha ,Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar,West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
