(d) Some 13% of the world’s countries have compulsory voting according to data compiled by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. The 22 countries of the world have adopted compulsory voting system. The compulsory voting system means the registration of citizens and compulsory casting of votes in the national and/or local elections. The citizens pay the penalty if they do not cast votes in the elections.
