(b) Rabindranath Tagore gave up his ‘Knighthood’ in protest to Massacre at Jallianwala Bagh. On April, 1919 at the Jallianwala Bagh (Amritsar), the people assembled to protest the arrest and deportation of two nationalist leaders, Satya Pal and Saifuddin Kitchlew. During the protest, General Dyer,who had crept up to the scene wanting to teach the public assembled a lesson, ordered 90 soldiers to open fire on the crowd.More than 1,000 people lost their lives, while 1,200 people were wounded in the massacre.
