(a) Bal Gangadhar Tilak was a philosopher, and ardent nationalist who helped to lay the foundation for India’s independence by building his own defiance of British rule into a national movement. He founded and served as the President of the Indian Home Rule League. He joined Congress in 1890. Valentine Chirol called him “Father of Indian Unrest”.
