Exponential growth rate of population calculated by the following formula.

P_(t) = P_0e^{rt}

where

P_(t) = 16P_0

r = 3.5% = .035

t = ?

e = 2.718

16P_0 = P_0 e^{.035}

2^4 = e^{.035}

By taking log,

4 \log 2 = .035t \log e

4 × 0.3010 =3.5/100t×0.4340

t=79.26

years or 80 years
