The sides of a triangle are in the ratio of 1/2 : 1/3 : 1/4. If its perimeter is 52 cm, the length of the smallest side is:

Solution:

Let the sides of the triangle are

1/2x,1/3x

and

1/4x

∴

52=1/2x+1/3x+1/4x

⇒52=13/12x⇒x=48

∴ First side of the triangle

=48×1/2=24

Second side of the triangle

=48×1/3=16

Third side of the triangle

= 48×1/4=12

(Smallest side)
