For non zero real numbers x and y operations * and ∆ are defined by x * y =

{\x^2 +\y^2}/\xy

and x ∆ y =

{2\x}/\y

. If a*b 4∆4,then the relation between a and b is

a=b
a=2b
2a =b
2a=3b

Solution:

x * y=\;{x^{2}+y^{2}}/{x y}

and

x ∆ y=\;{2 x}/{y}

a * b=4 ∆ 4

⇒ \;{a^{2}+b^{2}}/{a b}=\;{2 × 4}/{4}

⇒ a^{2}+b^{2}=2 a b

⇒ a^{2}+b^{2}-2 a b=0 ⇒ a=b
