The base and height of a triangle are in the ratio 4:3 and its area is 54 sq. cm. What is its height?

Solution:

Let the base and height of the triangle be 4a and 3a respectively.
Area of the triangle

=\;{1}/{2} b h=\;{1}/{2}(4 a)(3 a)

=54 cm ^{2} ⇒ 6 a ^{2}=54 ⇒ a =3

The height of the triangle

(3a) = 9 cm
